Chotzä - Tüüfuswärk

To create an "antisocial black metal" in German-speaking Switzerland. With this intent, the Chotzä were born in 2011, a moniker that could be translated with the verb "To Vomit". Their first album is from 2014 and since then the band has come a long way, establishing itself as one of the main within the Central European black metal scene.

Tüüfuswärk is their third full-length, produced by Northern Fog Records and published today on youtube. Considerable duration: 54 minutes of splendid black metal. There is an interesting combination in the songs on the album: more "melodic" sections are added to the "classic" parts of the genre, which sometimes lead to solos with a death-prog taste, as in the case of the second song Schtächzähni. The rhythmic part is devastating, whit the drums of a great Cpt. Cunt, and riffing is also noteworthy.

It is interesting to note that Chotzä have often defined their music also with the nickname "black 'n' roll" and we believe that the fourth song, Sex, Suff & Satan, could be the manifesto of this statement: an almost blues gait it acts as a corollary to flamboyant guitars and pleasantly surprising piano grafts.

The album flows away without ever boring, indeed with the feeling that each song may contain something interesting and different from the black metal productions of this period. Szivilizs' sung in German adds something indefinable, but magnetic; a sense of innovation in the wake of the Neue Deutsche Härte.

Among the songs that captured our attention, we also mention Abfau, where a variety of registers is explored that leaves us happily displaced. Finally we conclude with the title track: if there was the addition of electronics, we would find ourselves in front of a great Industrial Metal piece, one of those to be sung at the concerts.

The vote for this rich and complex album, without being complicated, can only be the best!

Creare un "antisocial black metal" nella Svizzera tedesca. Con questo intento sono nati nel 2011 i Chotzä, parola che potrebbe essere tradotta col verbo "Vomitare". Il loro primo album è del 2014 e da allora la band ha fatto molta strada, affermandosi come una delle principali all'interno della scena black metal mitteleuropea.

Tüüfuswärk è il loro terzo full-length, prodotto da Northern Fog Records e pubblicato oggi su youtube. Durata considerevole: 54 minuti di splendido black metal. Nelle canzoni dell'album c'è un interessante connubio: alle parti "classiche" del genere si aggiungono sezioni più melodiche, che talvolta sfociano in assoli dal gusto death-prog, come nel caso del secondo brano Schtächzähni. Devastante la parte ritmica, dove la batteria di Cpt. Cunt la fa da padrone, degno di nota anche il riffing.

E' interessante notare che i Chotzä hanno spesso definito la loro musica anche con l'appellativo "black 'n' roll" e riteniamo che il quarto brano, Sex, Suff & Satan, possa essere il manifesto di questa affermazione: un incedere quasi blues fa da corollario a chitarre fiammeggianti e a innesti di pianoforte piacevolmente sorprendenti.

L'album scorre via senza mai annoiare, anzi con la sensazione che ogni canzone possa contenere qualcosa di interessante e di diverso rispetto alle produzioni black metal di questo periodo. Il cantato in lingua tedesca di Szivilizs aggiunge qualcosa di indefinibile, ma di magnetico; una senso di innovazione nel solco della Neue Deutsche Härte.

Tra i brani che maggiormente hanno carpito la nostra attenzione ricordiamo anche Abfau, dove viene esplorata una varietà di registri che ci lascia felicemente spiazzati. Infine concludiamo con la title track: se ci fosse l'aggiunta dell'elettronica, ci troveremmo di fronte ad un grande pezzo Industrial Metal, uno di quelli da cantare a squarciagola nei concerti. 

Il voto per questo album ricco e complesso, senza essere complicato, non può che essere il massimo!
