It was the year 2000 when the Gorgon, black metal project founded and led by Chris, gave life to "The Spectral Voices". Their latest album, up to the newborn "The Veil of Darkness". Osmose Production has just released on YouTube this latest effort of the band from the South of France: eleven tracks of beautiful Black Metal, consistent and pissed off!
It starts with Son of Perdition, an intro that accompanies us to the first real song of the album: Still Six Six Six hammers as it should, with riffs that make you want to moshing even in the car, in traffic.
The third song is This is War, which presents non-extreme melodic lines and has a pretty good refrain that sticks to the brain and does not go away anymore.
The fourth track is the title track, the splendid and martial The Veil of Darkness: scratchy guitars, lancinating voice, all in perfect balance.
It then runs at full speed up to the "borders of the forest", with Border of the Forest, a song that should not be missed in any live performances.
It then touches to Path of Doom, a furious song that breaks gables and bones. Some melodic phrases do not make the song softer, but certainly richer.
The seventh track is The Roots of My Fantasies: on the march, behind the Black Torch! This song is a call to arms! A rediscovery of your roots, when you take a guitar in your hands for the first time and give freedom to your fantasies.
The next Burned for Him is a particular song, in which the slow parts convince more than the fast ones, a bit 'too tied to the cliché of black metal.
Depraved Conception confirms an idea: the Gorgone knows how to make black metal, on this there are few doubts. This track is its almost physical demonstration.
Posthumous Bewitchment is violence, pure violence, insane violence.
The journey ends with Our Crusade, which reminded us a little of Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir & co. This song is a bit 'the poster of the album: full of nuances, wonderful balance of contrasts, right dose of anger and despair.

Sono passati diciannove anni.
Correva l’anno 2000 quando i Gorgon, black metal progetto fondato e guidato da Chris, davano alle stampe “The Spectral Voices”. Il loro ultimo album, fino al neonato The Veil of Darkness. La Osmose Production ha appena pubblicato su YouTube questa ultima fatica della band originaria del Sud della Francia: undici tracce di splendido Black Metal, coerente e incazzato!
Si parte con Son of Perdition, una intro che ci accompagna alla prima vera canzone dell’album: Still Six Six Six martella come si deve, con riffs che fanno venire voglia di moshing anche in macchina, nel traffico.
La terza canzone è This is War, che presenta linee melodiche non estreme e ha un ritornello niente male che si conficca nel cervello e non se ne va più via.
La quarta traccia è la title track, la splendida e marziale The Veil of Darkness: chitarre graffianti, voce lancinante, tutto in perfetto equilibrio.
Si corre poi a tutta velocità fino ai “confini della foresta”, con Border of the Forest, canzone che non dovrà assolutamente mancare in eventuali esibizioni live.
Tocca poi a Path of Doom, canzone furente che spacca timpani e ossa. Alcuni fraseggi melodici non rendono la canzone più morbida, ma certamente più ricca.
La settima traccia è The Roots of My Fantasies: in marcia, dietro la Nera Fiaccola! Questa canzone è una chiamata alle armi! Una riscoperta delle proprie radici, di quando per la prima volta si prende una chitarra in mano e si concede libertà alle proprie fantasie.
La successiva Burned for Him è una canzone particolare, in cui le parti lente convincono più di quelle veloci, un po’ troppo legate al cliché del black metal.
Depraved Conception ci conferma un’idea: la Gorgone sa fare black metal, su questo ci sono pochi dubbi. Questa traccia ne è la dimostrazione quasi fisica.
Posthumous Bewitchment è violenza, violenza pura, violenza insana.
Il viaggio si conclude con Our Crusade, che ci ha ricordato un po’ Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir & co. Questa canzone è un po’ il manifesto dell’album: ricca di sfumature, splendido equilibrio di contrasti, giusta dose di rabbia e disperazione.
