"Depravity Ordained", the debut album of the Vile Apparition, an Australian death metal band, has just been released on YouTube. Nine traces of OSDM (Old School Death Metal), but there is no trace of useless copy: the Vile Apparition can be innovative and faithful at the same time. Products from the Memento Mori label, the Vile Apparition are composed by Jamie Colic on vocals and guitars, guitarist Dan Harris, bassist Dave Kearns and the excellent drummer Oliver Ballantyne.
It starts immediately at full speed with Mauled and Nameless, a sound bomb that impacts on the face like a fist of Tyson. The drummer is a machine gun that slows down just to give the guitar a short solo.
Then follows the title track, Depravity Ordained: very well built, varies when it should, hammer as it should! In this song, the Vile Apparitions give an essay of their knowledge of the genre and the ability to innovate it.
Also Dissect to Enucleate is a very rich track, in which one proceeds without compromise in the wake of the pestilential tradition of the genre.
The fourth track is Aeon of Impalement. Fury: this word would be enough to define the track, in a first impression. But there is much more in this song. Here too, a special mention for the drums: splendid.
Then comes an instrumental interlude that has nothing to do with anything, with keyboards that do not mean anything. The Cursed Path is a track that could easily be abolished.
With Malevolent Aphantasia it was great to come back to listen to the putrid death metal, with echoes of doom metal embedded in the middle. Our heads have been up and down all the time!
Repulsive Desire is an ideal song for a great violent moshing. We imagine that live is really fantastic.
With The Gate the band crosses the gate of Tradition and makes a small picture of death metal.
The last track is Window of the Grotesque: a distressing initial arpeggio could fool, making you imagine an instrumental song or an oddly slow piece. Instead the track of closing the album is a small masterpiece.
Depravity Ordained is certainly a beautiful death metal album. Too bad for that very useless and incoherent instrumental interlude, a small big mistake for a band that has its own strength in consistency and in the absence of compromise.

Si parte subito a tutta velocità con Mauled and Nameless, una bomba sonora che impatta sulla faccia come un pugno di Tyson. La batteria è una mitraglia che rallenta solo per concedere alla chitarra un breve assolo.
Segue poi la title track, Depravity Ordained: molto ben costruita, varia quando deve, martella come si deve! In questa canzone, i Vile Apparition danno un saggio della loro conoscenza del genere e della capacità di innovarlo.
Anche Dissect to Enucleate è una traccia molto ricca, in cui si procede senza compromessi nel solco della tradizione pestilenziale del genere.
La quarta traccia è Aeon of Impalement. Furia: basterebbe questa parola a definire la traccia, in una prima impressione. In realtà, in questa canzone c’è molto di più. Anche qui, una menzione particolare per la batteria: splendida.
Arriva poi un intermezzo strumentale che non c’entra davvero niente, con tastiere che non significano nulla. The Cursed Path è una traccia che poteva tranquillamente essere abolita.
Con Malevolent Aphantasia è stato bellissimo tornare ad ascoltare del putrido death metal, con echi di doom metal incastonati in mezzo. Le nostre teste hanno fatto su e giù tutto il tempo!
Repulsive Desire è una canzone ideale per un bel moshing violento. Immaginiamo che live sia davvero fantastica.
Con The Gate la band attraversa il cancello della Tradizione del Death Metal e realizza un piccolo manifesto del genere.
L’ultima traccia è Window of the Grotesque: un angosciante arpeggio iniziale potrebbe ingannare, facendo immaginare una canzone strumentale o un pezzo stranamente lento. Invece la traccia di chiusura dell’album è un piccolo capolavoro.
Depravity Ordained è certamente un bel album di death metal. Peccato per quell’intermezzo strumentale decisamente inutile e incoerente, piccolo grande errore per una band che ha la propria forza nella coerenza e nell’assenza di compromessi.
