The brutal suffering of a Seraphim

The latest album by the New Zealander Rendered Helpless, titled "Suffer, Seraphim", was released on 24 January 2019 on YouTube. Compared to "Entities", the previous album of this one man band born in 2012, this last effort is perhaps less brutal, but more intriguing in its chaotic unfolding.

The first piece, And the end began, is a simple intro with a hint of esotericism, which never hurts.

You begin to pound after almost two minutes, with the interesting Insatiable Domination, in which the slower phrases are appropriate and do not jar with the rest of the song.

Then follows the title track Suffer, Seraphim, which you can listen to with pleasure (a term that many will not find suitable for a genre like Brutal Death ... poor closed minds!).

The fourth track, Matriarchal Devirgination, presents a sound system of all respect, certainly suitable to be presented in live shows.

Afterwards, we find Consumed by Anguish, which leaves decidedly brutal and then suddenly slow down, until we listen to Doom metal echoes, and finally finish at full speed. This is certainly among the most interesting tracks on the album.

Delirium is quite scholastic. Perfectly inserted in the wake of the classic Brutal Death. It does not add or take anything away.

You return to high levels with Malediction, seventh track of the album. While we listened to it, we could not keep our head in check: it went up and down on its own.

Transhuman Dread continues on the same groove, pounding with the right frequency and continuity.

The journey ends with the track The Emperor of Nothing, which is perhaps the most epic song on the album. Ideal soundtrack for the nights of angry and desperate insomnia.

About the texts and the issues addressed, here we are in continuity with the previous Entities. Echoes of different religions and deities are savored in the tracks, and the whole seems to become a concept album.

The artwork is made by Swedish artist Par Olofsson and it is really brutal in its violent approach to the angels of heaven.

Among the musicians who collaborated with Rendered Helpless for the realization of "Suffer, Seraphim", we recall Jesse Critchley of the Carnal, Joshua Bain of Dephts and Vin Jones of the Plaugue of the Fallen.

E’ stato pubblicato su Youtube il 24 gennaio 2019 l’ultimo album dei neozelandesi Rendered Helpless, dal titolo "Suffer, Seraphim". Rispetto a “Entities”, precedente album di questa one man band nata nel 2012, quest’ultima fatica è forse meno brutale, ma più intrigante nel suo caotico dispiegarsi.

Il primo pezzo, And the end began, è una semplice intro con un pizzico di esoterismo, che non guasta mai. 

Si comincia a pestare dopo quasi due minuti, con l’interessante Insatiable Domination, in cui le frasi più lente sono azzeccate e non stonano col resto del brano. 

Segue poi la title track Suffer, Seraphim, che si lascia ascoltare con piacere (termine che molti non troveranno adatto a un genere come il Brutal Death… povere menti chiuse!). 

La quarta traccia, Matriarchal Devirgination, presenta un impianto sonoro di tutto rispetto, certamente adatto ad essere presentato nei concerti. 

A seguire, troviamo Consumed by Anguish, che parte decisamente brutale per poi rallentare improvvisamente, fino a farci ascoltare echi di Doom metal, e infine terminare a tutta velocità. Questa è certamente tra le tracce più interessanti dell’album.

Delirium è abbastanza scolastica. Perfettamente inserita nel solco del classico Brutal Death. Non aggiunge e non toglie niente.

Si ritorna a livelli alti con Malediction, settima traccia dell’album. Mentre l’ascoltavamo, non siamo riusciti a tenere a freno la testa: andava su e giù autonomamente.

Transhuman Dread prosegue sullo stesso solco, pestando con la giusta frequenza e continuità.

Conclude il viaggio la traccia The Emperor of Nothing, che è forse la canzone più epica dell’album. Ideale colonna sonora per le notti di rabbiosa e disperata insonnia.

Per quanto concerne i testi e le tematiche affrontate, qui siamo in linea di continuità col precedente Entities. Echi di diverse religioni e divinità si assaporano nelle tracce, e tutto l’insieme sembra diventare un concept album.

L'artwork è opera dell'artista svedese Par Olofsson ed è davvero brutale nel suo violento accostamento agli angeli del cielo.

Tra i musicisti che hanno collaborato coi Rendered Helpless per la realizzazione di “Suffer, Seraphim”, ricordiamo Jesse Critchley dei Carnal, Joshua Bain dei Dephts e Vin Jones dei Plaugue of the Fallen.
